ON JANUARY 21, 2020, businesses in Iloilo City that have no permits to operate will be closed by the city mayor himself.

This was the strong statement issued by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas to all businesses who cannot renew their permit on or before January 20, the deadline of renewal.

Iloilo City Government will starts inspections on January 21 and Treñas will personally join the inspection rounds with the composite team, which is composed of the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) and the City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

“I personally go around with the BPLO and the task force we organized to the establishments, whether or not they have permits,” the mayor said.

“If they do not have permits, we will shut them down and we will no longer issue permits to them. I do not want businesses to operate in the city without the permit,” he added.

Treñas said that no one can just operate with impunity and disregard all the ordinances without applying for a permit in the Iloilo City.

Business owners in the city have been encouraged to renew their permits as City Hall’s “Business One-Stop-Shop” has been opened on extended hours until 8 p.m. and on the weekend from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. before Monday, January 20. (SunStar Philippines)
