Impressive LGUs during Suroy-Suroy to reap rewards

INCENTIVES await towns and cities in Cebu that will impress the 305 participants of the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo Northern Escapade trail.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, said the best host local government unit (LGU) will be determined by the participants who will be rating them based on entertainment, presentation, venue, comfort rooms and food.

“We will be giving an appreciation for the best LGU, but we will not be grading them. It will be the tourists, based on customer feedback. We have prepared criteria,” she said.

The governor said this is not the first time that the Provincial Government is extending incentives to LGUs that would leave a lasting impression on Suroy-Suroy Sugbo guests.

“I did that before one time, I believe. That was to encourage our LGUs. But that was during my previous term,” she said. “We didn’t do it for the southern (heritage trail last November) because it was just our comeback and I didn’t know what to expect. But really, the LGUs performed splendidly.”

Cash or projects

Garcia said the incentives may come in the form of cash or infrastructure projects to help the participating towns and cities in the north.

“There is no amount yet (for the incentives). I have to see for myself first the effort so that we can weigh in on the matter,” she continued.

Garcia, though, assured that just like in the southern trail, each of the 15 participating northern LGUs will be given P300,000 in cash aid to help in their preparation.

Among the expenses expected to be incurred during the event would be for food and the other needs of the local and foreign participants.

The three-day activity is scheduled on Jan. 22-24.

Participating LGUs include the towns of Consolacion, Compostela, Carmen, Sogod, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Sta. Fe, Madridejos and Bantayan. Also joining are the City of Bogo, and the towns of Tabogon, Borbon, Catmon and Liloan.

An LGU is given an hour to showcase its products and culture to the participants. (RTF)
