Climate change good add-on for school subjects

CAGAYAN de Oro 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez on Wednesday, January 15, called for a joint hearing to tackle the bill that will add new subjects in the curricula of schools in the country, which he filed last year.

Rodriguez filed House Bill 3749 which will include climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction subjects in the school curriculum.

He said the subject shall be integrated in the curricula of all elementary, secondary and college institutions in the country.

"With the eruption of Taal Volcano, there is need to approve this immediately to prepare our young people to face calamities like this,"Rodriguez said.

He said the subject will train students on what to do in case of emergencies and avoid confusion and wrong actions.

"This is for the safety of everyone,"he added.

The Kagay-anon lawmaker urged the Committee on Basic Education and Committee on Higher Education to tackle the bill when Congress resumes next week so that the subject will be incorporated in the next school year.
