THE Philippine Institute of Volcanolgy and Seismology Cebu will monitor the activity of the Kanlaon Volcano following the eruption of the Taal Volcano last Sunday, January 12, 2020.

Kanlaon Volcano is the most active volcano in Central Visayas and is located between Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

According to Robinson Jorgio, office-in-charge of Phivolcs Cebu, they are continuously monitoring the Kanlaon Volcano and has advised the public to be prepared at all times.

He also assured that the ashfall happening in Luzon will not reach Cebu since the province is far from the Taal Volcano and winds are not that strong.

Jorgio urged the public to visit their website hazardhunter.georisk.gov.ph for updates and information on the different hazards and disaster preparedness during earthquakes and a volcanic eruption.

In the website, the user will be directed to a map of the Philippines. There, one can click on their current location. The website will then compute and give an initial assessment of how far or near a fault is to them, its interpretation and what kind of fault is in their location.

"Daghan man gud nangutana kon naa bay fault diri sa Cebu ug kon unsa kalay-a ang fault nila so matubag nana pinaagi sa maong webpage," he said.

(A lot of people are asking whethere there are faults here in Cebu and how far it is from their location. Our webpage can answer those questions.)

As of Wednesday, January 15, Taal Volcano is at Alert Level 4.

Jorgio advised the public to follow the right authorities on social media and to not easily fall for fake news. (JCT)
