Barangay official in Poro, Camotes nabbed in buy-bust

INSTEAD of helping in the government’s war against drugs, a barangay official from Mabini in Poro, Camotes will be spending time behind bars after getting caught in a drug bust.

He won’t be alone though as he will be joined by his two cousins.

Police Lt. Jose Ruel Nalzaro, the chief of the Poro Police Station, identified the three as Reynalito “Isot” Garciano, 42, a barangay councilor of Mabini; and Felito “Bimbo” Garciano, 49, and Irene Glenn “Opaw” Garciano, 31, who are both members of the Barangay Mabini peacekeeping team.

The three were among the batch of five suspects who were caught during extensive anti-drug operations held on Jan. 13, 2020.

Nalzaro said he was disappointed to learn about the barangay officers’ involvement.

“What really angers me is that these two, Irene and Felito, had just joined the BPAT (Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team) as representatives of their barangay, and this is what they do?” Nalzaro told Superbalita.

The police recovered some sachets of shabu from the three.

The other suspects caught during the operations were Erwin Donaire, a 48-year-old resident from Cebu City who was caught in Poro, and Clint Japay, a 23-year-old student from Libertad. (FVQ)
