Comelec–Baguio to use new server

BAGUIO City will be the pilot area in the country that will use a brand new voter registration system with its new tower server.

Lawyer John Paul Martin, Baguio City election supervisor of the Commission on Election (Comelec) said the new system will capture data of every registered voter in the city, assuring the efficiency of the electoral process.

“We are glad that Baguio City was chosen by our central office to be the pilot area for the newest tower server dedicated in efficiently gathering the needed data for each and every registered voter and hopefully, we will overcome the election glitches that we experienced in the last political exercise,” Martin said.

Martin added the new tower server for Baguio City will be dedicated in gathering specific data related to elections and prevent the vote counting machines (VCM) in future electoral process.

During the May 2019 Elections, the electoral tribunal recorded at least 961 VCM that malfunctioned as compared to 188 in 2016.

Around 1,000 SD cards were also defective as compared to only 120 cards in 2016.

“During previous voter registration activities that we conducted, some voter registration verification machines (VRVM) did not work properly to which the electoral boards have resorted to manually verifying voters’ names. But with this new system, we are hoping that this would address this specific malfunction for it not to happen again,” Martin added.
