Bacolod names Andrew Tan adopted son, honorary mayor

THE Bacolod City Council has approved a resolution declaring Dr. Andrew Lim Tan, chairman of the Alliance Global Group Inc., as adopted son of Bacolod City for the year 2020.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said yesterday the resolution was unanimously approved on January 8 upon the request of Mayor Evelio Leonardia in time for the 15th Bacolaodiat Festival on January 31 to February 2.

He said it has been observed a tradition in Bacolod City that in every Bacolaodiat Festival celebration, a nationally acclaimed member of the Filipino-Chinese community is declared as adopted son of the city.

Tan has become one of the most admired entrepreneurs in the country, a renowned innovator and brand builder. Tan is the chairman of the Alliance Global Group Inc , which concentrates on property development, integrated tourism, food and beverage and quick service restaurants.

Tan is also the chairman and chief executive officer of Megaworld Corporation which is the country’s number one residential and office condominiums developer that recently expanded in Bacolod City.

Familiaran said the contributions made by Tan to the city and country that spurs continued development makes him worthy to be declared as an adopted Bacolodnon.

He said the City Council will present the approved resolution to Tan next month at the Bacolod Government Center.

Leonardia earlier said that being the largest real estate developer in the Philippines, Megaworld Corporation is a formidable by-word, recognized not just in the country but also abroad.

“This year, we will mark the Bacolaodiat Festival’s milestone year by recognizing Dr. Andrew L. Tan as a visionary and trendsetter in the real estate industry, among others, with his Live-Work-Play-Learn lifestyle formula. Without doubt, he is highly respected, as well in the business community,” he said.

Other Filipino-Chinese businessmen who were conferred the title “Adopted Sons of Bacolod” were Lucio Tan, John Gokongwei Jr., Henry Sy, and Eduardo Cojuangco Jr.

Other prominent adopted sons of Bacolod were singer-businessman Jose Mari Chan, ring icon Senator Manny Pacquiao, and former senator Alberto Romulo.
