WARNING! Avoid spreading fake news about Mt. Kanlaon.
This was the appeal yesterday of Zeaphard Caelian, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Program of the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental
Caelian also advises everyone to be vigilant on the news on social media.
"Always verify the source and please stop sharing this [fake] news because it will only cause misinformation and confusion to the public," he appealed.
He reiterated his earlier pronouncement that the eruption of Taal Volcano will not trigger and will not affect Kanlaon Volcano.
Caelin also slammed a post on Facebook by a certain QR Zaguirre praying that Kanlaon will erupt also.
Zaguirre posted on January 13, "Mt. Canlaon Lord...sana pasabugin muna din ito...plz..plz..TY."
"They should think about this," Caelian said.
He also said that this person does not know that lives, livelihood and environment are at stake in a very large scale.
"Let us pray for a safe province and always be prepared and be proactive in disaster preparedness," Caelian added.
Meanwhile Acting Governor Jeffrey Ferrer also made the same warning against fake news about Kanlaon Volcano.
Ferrer also revealed that the amount to be donated by the province to the victims of Taal eruption would be determined once Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson will be back to the province from a vacation.
Ferrer said that the province has been donating to the victims of calamities in some provinces.
Ferrer is also encouraging concerned individuals to donate to the Taal victims either in cash or in kind. He said that his office could facilitate the donations.
