THE state weather bureau expects generally fair weather on Friday, January 17, 2020, when thousands will join the Traslacion of the Holy Image of the Holy Child from the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño to the National Shrine of Saint Joseph in Mandaue City.

Al Quiblat, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Cebu weather bureau chief, said revelers could also expect fair weather during Sinulog weekend.

He said based on their five-day weather forecast, no weather system is seen to affect the Sinulog festivities.

Quiblat added that the chances of rainfall is low on Friday. The wind is also expected to be at slight to moderate speed. The expected temperature is normal at 24 to 31 degree Celsius.

On Saturday or the day of the fluvial/seaborne procession, there is a higher chance of rain but only in the afternoon. The sea state or the sea’s general condition is also light to moderate with wave heights ranging from .75 to 1.25 meters.

Same general weather condition is also seen during the actual Sinulog day on January 19. The expected temperature is still at 24 to 31 degree Celsius while the expected heat index is at 34 degree Celsius or 93.2 degrees Fahrenheit.

The heat index, according to Pagasa, is a human discomfort index perceived by humans as the temperature affecting the body.

A heat index ranging from 90 degrees to 103 degrees Fahrenheit falls under the “extreme caution” classification which means that the such heat index may cause heat stroke, heat cramps, or heat exhaustion with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity outdoors.

Quiblat advised the public to properly hydrate themselves, wear lightly colored and comfortable clothes and, if possible, use an umbrella to protect themselves from direct sun exposure. (WBS)
