A FORMER village chairman in Candaba town was shot dead by still unknown assailants Thursday morning.
This town's chief of police Major Elias Tait identified the victim as Maximo Dela Rosa, 56, a resident and former head of Barangay Salapungan.
Tait said the victim, along with one Ponciano Manalastas, were on board a motorcycle when the suspect fired at Dela Rosa.
"The victim was on the way to town proper and upon reaching a certain store in Barangay Paralaya, an armed man on foot followed and shot Dela Rosa," he said.
Dela Rosa was declared dead on the spot while Manalastas was spared and did not sustain any injury during the incident, Tait said.
Police are yet to determine the identification of the suspect and motive of the crime as a follow-up investigation is ongoing.
