THE City Government of Bacolod is still waiting for the official report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) so they can send the financial assistance to the victims of Taal volcano eruption.
Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran yesterday said the city will extend financial assistance to victims of Taal eruption.
He said the budget will be taken from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) funds.
“We will wait for the official report so we can determine the affected areas of Taal Volcano eruption so we can also send our assistance like what we did in Mindanao,” he added.
The NDRRMC earlier disclosed there are more than 900 displaced families in Batangas and Cavite.
Familiaran noted on Wednesday, Mayor Evelio Leonardia held a meeting with the CDRRMO, Coast Guard and other government agencies at the Bacolod Government Center.
Familiaran said they also tackled the effect of Taal Volcano eruption on Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island.
“We have nothing to worry because it will not affect Kanlanon Volcano in Negros Island,” he said.
Zeaphard Caelian, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Program, earlier said that Kanlaon’s alert level was lowered to alert level zero by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in 2019, citing the volcano’s “signs of normalcy.”
“Taal and Kanlaon have separate activities,” Caelian said.
Kanlaon is classified as the third active volcano in the Philippines.
The volcano is the highest point in Negros as well as in the whole Visayas with an elevation of 2,465 meters above sea level.
Its latest eruption happened in 2006.
