PSA-Benguet conducts survey on farm wages

A SURVEY on the average earnings of Benguet farmers will be held from January 13 to 31 by the Phillippine Statistics Authority in the province.

The study seeks to help formulate concrete plans and programs in response to the needs of the public.

Imelda Buyuccan, PSA-Benguet chief statistical specialist, said the regular surveys of the data arm agency aims to generate idea of average wage rates of agricultural farm workers, specifically for the four major crops: palay, corn, coconut and sugarcane.

“This is to establish basis for computing the average wage rate in agriculture. This was done to give distinction to the survey as a statistical activity that focuses mainly on generating information on cost of farm labor,” she added.

The survey also aims to determine the national and regional averages and variations on wage rates by type of labor this include man, man-animal and man-machine for the different farm operations.

This will also help generate gender-based data for wage rates and determine the extent of women’s participation in agricultural production activities.

“For Benguet, there were 15 sample palay households located at the following barangays in four municipalities of Benguet: Poblacion, Atok with three household samples; San Pascual, Tuba with five household samples; Banangan, Sablan with three household samples; and Dalipey, Bakun with four household samples," said Buyuccan.

The agency asked for support from the households to give truthful and complete information to our trained Statistical Researchers keeping in mind that reliable data could help formulate concrete plans and programs that are responsive to the needs of the people.
