Villanueva: Championing the Youth

LAST January 7, the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) Meeting was held at the Baguio City Multi-Purpose Hall headed by City Councilor, President of the Sangguniang Kabataan Pederasyon Baguio City and Chairman of LYDC Hon. Levy Lloyd Orcales with the City Youth Development Officer and LYDC Secretariat Ms. Liza Balao. As Hon. Orcales said, “it is the reorganization of the City Youth Development Council in accordance with Republic Act No. 10742 or the SK reform act of 2015 stating that all local government units in the country are required to organize its LYDC”.

The meeting last Saturday also served as the first regular monthly meeting of the LYDC. Various youth groups and youth-serving organizations that have accomplished for the youth of Baguio were invited. The task of the LYDC is to assist in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the City Youth Development Plan of 2018 to 2021. Such plan shall be anchored from the Philippine Youth Development Plan 2017 to 2022 covering 9 areas for youth participation stated herewith with their respective elected vice-chair organizations: Health (Family Planning Organization of the Philippines); Education (Arte Sine); Peace Building and Security (Diocese of Baguio); Social Inclusion and Equity (NMS Cares); Active Citizenship (Rotaract Club of Baguio Highlands); Governance (Boy Scouts of the Philippines); Environment (Oscar Alumni Community Inc.); Economic Empowerment (Pasakalye Group of Artists Youth); and Global Mobility. The other members of the council are the following: FAB Inc. Youth, Red Cross Youth, and D’LYGG (The Light Youth Gathering Org).
