77-siege displaced families remain in transitory sites

THE City Government said there are still 77 families housed in the remaining four transitory sites in Zamboanga City.

They are among the 120,000 individuals who were displaced during the 2013 Zamboanga siege.

The 77 families are housed at the transitory sites in the village of Rio Hondo–13; Masepla in Mampang–24; Asinan–24 and Buggok–16, all in Kasanyangan.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the primary reason why these families were left behind was the delay in the approval of the purchase of properties where the permanent houses will be constructed by the National Housing Authority (NHA).

Salazar has convened the Local Inter-Agency Committee (LIAC) and tackled updates on the implementation of the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction and other issues related to families displaced by the 2013 siege.

Salazar said said the LIAC approved policies and regulations that will ensure continuous assistance to the individuals displaced.

She said the LIAC also discussed about the utilization of the P20 million for the repair of the foot bridges as well as some permanent houses that were dilapidated due to exposure to elements. (SunStar Zamboanga)
