Council condoles with Canlas family

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution expressing their condolences to the community of Barangay 2 and to the family of Barangay 2 Kagawad Romeo Canlas Jr., who was killed on January 11.

The city council also urged the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to fast track the investigation for the attainment of justice for the bereaved family.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Lady Gles Pallen, was approved during the regular session of the City Council Wednesday, January 15.

Pallen said Canlas was first elected in 2010 and is now on his last term as kagawad of Barangay 2.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, spokesperson of BCPO, earlier said that Canlas was having a drinking session along with his friends at the compound of Kagawad Rino Dellarna of Barangay 26 when six armed men stormed the area and fired at the victim several times.

Investigation showed that Canlas, along with his friends, came from a cockpit in Barangay 2 where they attended a fiesta and then went to the compound of Dellarna.

Police recovered from the scene of the crime several empty shells of.45 caliber and .9mm caliber.

The victim sustained multiple wounds and was brought to the Corazon Locsinn Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital where he was declared dead.

The police are eyeing personal grudge, politics and involvement in illegal drugs as possible motives in the killing of Canlas.

Colonel Henry Binas, BCPO director, also directed the personnel of Police Station 4 to investigate all the possible angles to identify and arrest the suspects.
