Salvador: Swipe and win the world

THERE are airline seat sales and there are travel sales. With some, you only have to hit that buy button on your laptop or smart phone and off you go, or you can brave the crowds and long queues of a travel sale to snag the best deals on your choice destinations. In either, there are pros and cons. I cater to both kinds.

Online seat sales though don’t offer deferred payment schemes (unless you prefer paying your credit card bill’s minimum payment with interest), but there’s a bi-annual credit card travel sale though that does. Talk about a travel sale that lets you swipe and win the world.

Here’s the scenario: five airline companies with local and international destinations (two of which offer direct flights abroad from Davao, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines) slash airfare cost. Now, the seat on Business Class becomes tempting, Premium Economy is suddenly a wiser choice to travel and Economy Class tickets are a steal. You choose. Then it gives you two-month rest period, meaning no billing for a couple of months. Finally, you can pay the total bill in three installments with zero interest. With a deal like this, any traveler or soon-to-be-world-explorer will be lured into buying a ticket or two, or more. All you need is a BDO credit card. It’s plastic fantastic!

Every time the travel sale hits town, I see avid explorers on the first hour of the first day. It’s already some sort of a reunion. The first question: “Where are you headed to this year?” And we go through our planned and maybe-I-can-pluck-one-or-two-places-from-the-bucket-list destinations if budget allows.

There are hundreds of destinations across the globe all five airlines can offer. Some would stick t their “suki” airline and some would like to experience another airline’s service. Ultimately, it’s the price that counts. The airline that gets you to Paris or Moscow with $100 more on the pocket wins.

The Te’s are heading off to Hawaii to explore the Big Island, the Dakudao’s are visiting family in Vancouver, it’s New Zealand for the Reta’s, the Santoses wants to travel Hong Kong and Japan again, the Dioso’s and their gang are hitting Switzerland, the young Sison is about to make a dream come true and see Legoland in KL.

Exciting tales to see the world and warm stories of bonding with family and friends from eager travelers, what better prizes are there than these? A world of wonders all possible with a swipe of a plastic.
