MAJORITY of the members of the archaic Negros Press Club (NPC) have welcomed the youngest president ever in the organization after a hotly contested election held Saturday at the Negros Press Club Media Center on San Juan St., Bacolod City.

Daily Guardian budding news hen Glazyl Masculino, who is likewise a correspondent of the Manila Bulletin and a former SunStar Bacolod police beat reporter, has won against seasoned Daily Guardian provincial news bureau correspondent Maria Dolores "Dolly" Yasa with 63-42 votes.

Masculino is a Mass Communication graduate from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

This budding journalist has shown professionalism in dealing with the challenges after her proclamation to run for the club presidency.

It was a political skirmish between the young and the seasoned media practitioner, who has already served the club decades ago.

But largely, the majority of the members chose the younger fellow who has shown commitment and dedication to her media work and to the club, serving as a club director for several years.

Masculino was emotional after she saw the trend in the canvassing of votes in her favor toward victory.

She said she is young, but then she can instill fresh ideas and innovations that can bridge the wisdom and insights of the former leaders.

Her challenger Dolly Yasa gracefully conceded to Masculino.

The incoming officers of the NPC for 2020-2021 include Sheila Gellera, vice president and an active journalist of the Visayan Daily Star and CNN correspondent; Erwin Nicavera, secretary, SunStar multimedia editor and business reporter; Merlinda Pedrosa, treasurer, SunStar government center beat reporter; and Elsie Jolingan, Negros Daily Bulletin lifestyle columnist.

The nine incoming directors include Nona Magbanua, station manager of Aksyon Radyo; Yves Montecillo, RMN; Jemlo Victosa, RMN; Nannette Guadalquiver, Philippine News Agency; Eden Aboso, Aksyon Radyo; John Dale Salazar, Aksyon Radyo; Rey Siason, Muews FM; Dorel Cabatu, Aksyon Radyo; and Max Macahilo, Negros Weekly.

Outgoing president Chrysee Samillano thanked the members and her fellow officers for the support given to her administration.

She began her presidency with a reluctant heart but came out having a cheerful heart as she and her team were able to hurdle the many challenges of leading the club.
