Erediano makes sprint debut

CEBUANA junior triathlete Moira Frances Erediano is hoping to come out strong as she moves up one category higher in the Subic National Age Group (NAGT) Junior Elite Sprint on Jan. 26, 2020, at the Subic Freeport Zone. This will be the first time for Lapu-Lapu City’s pride Erediano to compete under the sprint category in the NAGT race, which is in partnership with the Triathlon Association of the Philippines, the national governing body for the sport.

The ninth-grader from Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu competed in the super sprint distance in the 2019 NAGT season. This time, she’s moving to a more competitive division—the junior sprint, which covers a 750-meter swim, a 20K bike and a 5K run.

“She has raced in sprint distance but not in NAGT. This is her first time to do a sprint distance in NAGT,” Fritz Erediano said of his daughter.

Last year, the younger Erediano competed in various sprint races, which were part of the Go For Gold Triathlon Series Championship. She won the girls’ overall title after garnering 100 championship points on that series.

“We are doing our best with the help of Ateneo de Cebu coach and coach Andoy (Remolino). Her first race this year was the Cebu Marathon and she finished at third place in the 5-kilometer race. It was a good tune-up,” said the older Erediano. (RSC)
