Bacolod drug rehab center 90% complete

THE construction of the Bacolod City Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Alijis is now 90 percent complete.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran confirmed this Monday, January 20, after Mayor Evelio Leonardia inspected the ongoing construction of the building in Barangay Alijis last week.

Familiaran said in 2018, the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) turned over a check worth P10 million to city officials to start the construction of the facility, and another P5 million in 2019 to complete the project.

He said the City Government, for its part, also allocated P25 million for the implementation of the project.

"The city's Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center project is a big help in the city's illegal drug campaign and for the rehabilitation of the drug user," he added.

The rehabilitation center will have an administration building, male and female quarters, a multi-purpose and mess hall building, and pavilion.

It will be constructed with a bed capacity of 52.

Familiaran said the Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center project will be managed by the City Government.

"We are also intensifying our campaign against illegal drugs together with the Bacolod City Police Office and the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council," he said.

Executive Assistant Samuel Montoyo, focal person of Cadac, earlier said they will submit the list of the 14 barangays to the Regional Oversight Committee on February 2020 to be declared as "drug cleared" in the city.

These are Barangays 11, 13, 22, 23, 32, 34, 36, 39, 41, Felisa, Granada, Montevista, and Pahanocoy.

The Regional Oversight Committee and PDEA earlier declared Barangay 5, headed by barangay captain Raymundo Salaveria; Barangay 15, headed by barangay captain Anthony Ayco; Barangay 17, headed by barangay captain Rogelio Pabiana; Barangay 18, headed by barangay captain Madeline Diaz; Barangay 24, headed by barangay captain Leif Gregory Ledesma; Barangay 33, headed by barangay captain John Malayang; Barangay 37, headed by barangay captain Adrian Garrucho; and Barangay 38, headed by barangay captain Gener Agpalo as "drug cleared" villages.

"Our village chiefs are really interested to be declared as 'drug cleared' barangays," Montoyo said, adding village chiefs are also cooperating with police operatives to eliminate illegal drugs within their areas of jurisdiction.

Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) records showed that from January 1 to December 31, 2019, the operatives confiscated a total of 6,083.026 grams of shabu with an estimated market value of P72,996,312, and 152.8139 grams of marijuana with an estimated market value of P35,147.20.

The BCPO also arrested a total of 111 high-value targets, 115 street-level targets, 20 minors and 715 newly identified drug suspects.
