Cagayan de Oro 'must pay attention' to climate change

A CLIMATE change adaptation, mitigation, and disaster risk reduction committee was created by the Cagayan de Oro City Council on Tuesday, January 21 which is seen to address climate change effects in the city, like flooding, among others.

Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr. was elected as the chairperson, Councilor Enrico Salcedo as vice-chairperson, while Councilors Romeo Calizo, Edna Dahino, and Ian Mark Nacaya are members.

Lao said the committee will make policies in line with the Climate Change of Act to ensure that government plans and actions are founded upon sound environmental considerations and sustainable development principles.

Lao said Cagayan de Oro, being a flood-prone city, should have concrete plans to prevent further loss of lives and property.

"Ang discussions should be continuing, we should always look for solutions. Dili ng anha ra ta maghisgot kung naa na ang calamity," he added.

(The discussions should be continuing, we should always look for solutions rather than acting late when the calamity is already there.)
