THE Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) in Talisay City has sent another student abroad for its TraVerSE Abroad Program.
Third year Bachelor of Arts Major in English student Carla Mae Mesa will be studying as an exchange student in Endicott College, Beverly Massachusetts from January to May 2020.
This is under the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) hosted by Fulbright Philippines and sponsored by the United Stated Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and The Philippine-American Education Foundation (PAEF).
Mesa left for US on Monday, January 20.
The Global UGRAD provides a diverse group of emerging student leaders with a scholarship for one semester of non-degree academic study at a US college or university.
Dr. Jay Estrellas, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said it is a privilege that one of their students was able to experience the Student Exchange Program and at the same time comply and support the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) memorandum on internationalization.
Estrellas said they are trying to promote the student exchange program with other countries.
"This is really an opportunity for her to also see the other side of the world and be able to learn something regarding the curricular program in that area," he added.
The TraVerSE [Train, Volunteer, Study and Exchange] Abroad Program is designed as an optional co-curricular and extra-curricular enhancement program for qualified students.
It is administered and facilitated by CHMSC Center for External Affairs in coordination with different colleges through their deans and student affairs, registrar and vice president for academic affairs offices.
Earlier, eight BS Hospitality Management (BSHM) students of CHMSC also left for Japan for the six-month internship program at Chuo Food Services Company Ltd. (PR)
