CONTINUOUS improvement at the Harrison Road night market is ongoing.

Baguio City Councilor Philian Weygan-Allan said an experimental downsizing of stall sizes will be in effect for two weeks at the night market to give a wider walkway for buyers.

"We will try to downsize the stalls of the night market. Para mas maluwang iyong passage nila," Allan said.

Allan also noted parking has been prohibited at the other lane of the road to prevent pedestrians to walk the active road at night, though observations have come on pedestrians walking the area.

The night market provides livelihood and employment to over 1,000 night market vendors and the city is earning approximately P1.5 million per month without much capital operating from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

Previously, purge of the 1,067 vendors at the night market was made, trimming at least 70 vendors from the list.

Those removed were found to be "dead" already and those who have not been selling for two weeks straight.

Allan said there are no plans as to date on relocation so the area for the night market will be at the Harrison road until final plans will be made.

Garbage, according to the lady councilor, is gathered by vendors by 1 a.m. and collected by 2 to 3 a.m. daily.

Allan added the night market vendors donated at least 50 sacks and some cash to Taal victims last week as their collective contribution to the survivors of the volcano eruption.
