Peñalosa looks to bounce back

CARLO Peñalosa is in for a tough test as he takes on fellow former regional champion Alphoe Dagayloan on Feb. 1, 2020 at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.

“This is a very important fight for Carlo (Peñalosa). His opponent is not easy. This fight will tell us if he’s is for real,” Peñalosa’s handler and uncle Gerry Peñalosa told SunStar Cebu.

The 26-year-old Carlo is looking to bounce back after losing by technical decision to Mexican Maximino Flores in an International Boxing Organization (IBO) flyweight title fight on Aug. 25, 2019 in Novaliches. The fight was cut short by the ring physician in the seventh round because of a huge gash on Carlo’s left eyelid.

Before the loss, Carlo won his last seven contests and won the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council Silver and World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia South flyweight titles.

The 28-year-old Dagayloan, on the other hand, went 3-1 last year. He beat Lyster Jun Pronco, Esneth Domingo and Danrick Sumabong, while his lone defeat in 2019 was against Japanese Ryota Yamauchi. He also won the WBA Asia flyweight belt in 2019.

Carlo is 14-2 with seven knockouts, while Dagayloan is 14-3-5 with five knockouts.

Carlo and Dagayloan will be fighting for a Philippine title.

Meanwhile, also in the same fight card is a battle between two veterans.

Roldan Aldea of Negros Occidental holds a record of 14 wins, eight losses, one draw and eight knockouts.

Monico Laurente is a veteran with 30 wins, 16 losses and seven knockouts. (EKA)
