Negros Occidental pledges P1M for Taal victims

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental has pledged P1 million to assist the victims of the recent Taal volcano eruption in Batangas.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the funds would be taken from the budget they have set aside for provinces that were affected by calamities, particularly those who have declared under a "state of calamity."

Lacson said the P1 million was agreed upon during a meeting with provincial officials, and may be tackled during the Provincial Board's next regular session.

Aside from the Provincial Government, the City Government of Bacolod had earlier announced that they would also provide assistance to the victims of Taal eruption.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office had also pledged to provide assistance by donating a portion of the rice allowance provided for the police.

Fifty percent of the allowance, or P325, will be collected from each of the 1,971 NOPPO personnel by the finance section. The gathered donations will then be handed over to barangay officials of selected affected Taal barangays.
