SWU Cobras crush Sacs by 54 points in MYBL

THE Southwestern University-Phinma Baby Cobras crushed the St. Alphonsus Catholic School (Sacs), 78-24, in Under-18 Division 1 action in the MVP Sports Foundation Youth Basketball League Cebu at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020.

The Baby Cobras set the tone of the game early as they raced off to a massive 41-12 lead in the first half, thanks to a leech-like defense that held SacsS to a mere four points in the second period.

James Calizar led the Baby Cobras in scoring with 14 points while perimeter marksman Dezeo Villanueva added 13 markers laced with three three-pointers. Jimwell Craus added 12 points, four rebounds, two steals and a block.

In other Under-18 games, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers blew away the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu, 66-47. After a tight first half that saw USPF lead by just four, the Panthers blew the game wide open with a 24-13 explosion in the third canto that put them in front by 15, 50-35, heading to the final canto.

Miles Tongco led USPF with 15 points, three rebounds and two steals while Kline Ochavo added 14 markers, five rebounds and three assists.

Meanwhile, Don Bosco thwarted Paref-Springdale, 60-42. Raurio Panimdim paced Don Bosco’s balanced attack with 11 points and four rebounds.

In the Under-15 Division 1 action, the Millennials pulled away in the fourth to come up with a 34-27 win over Developmental Pardo. Enricke Herbito had a marvelous ballgame for the Millenials as he tallied 11 points, three rebounds and three steals.

The University of the Visayas also routed Ateneo de Cebu, 74-23. UV tightened up its defense in the second half and limited its opponents to just a single point while scoring 20 of its own in the third to tally the easy win.

Vincent Barliso almost had a double-double for UV with 12 points and nine rebounds to go along with three steals.

And finally, in the Under-12 Division 1 category, Omar Basketball downed the Cebu Institute of Technology-University, 48-40. Arkin Perez sizzled from the field in that game with 19 points. (JNP)
