BAGUIO City Representative Marquez Go pointed out the importance of establishing the educational world class training center in the Cordillera to be highly competitive in terms of employment and for the their skills with the establishment of the Cordillera State Institute of Technical Education (CSITE).
In his weekly radio program at Radyo Pilipinas Baguio, Go said CSITE is set to offer subjects in agriculture, tourism, business, information technology, among others which will be free under the universal access to quality tertiary education including tech-voc institution such as CSITE.
“It’s is now time that this educational facility be established so that the conception of the programs to be implemented maybe created. We encourage prospective students to study and finish degree programs like at the Benguet State University at the same time with CSITE for those not wanting to finish college can opt to study here,” Go explained.
Last year, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11192 establishing CSITE authored by Go.
The law integrates the Baguio City of School of Arts and Trades, Technical Education Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Regional Training Center-Baguio City, TESDA Provincial Training Centers in Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province, the local government unit (LGU) Provincial Training Center in Apayao, and other state-run technical-vocation institutions in the region.
Under the law signed by the President, a wide array of 1-year to 3-year technical and vocational programs and certificate courses will be offered. There would be an industry-academe collaboration and critical partnerships with local and international institutions to forge mutual skills benchmarking standards, program exchange and internship trainings.
TESDA in coordination with concerned government agencies, Local Government Units (LGU) and industrybusiness partners shall prepare and issue the necessary rules and regulations of the said law.
“In relation to this, one of the aspects that we discussed with professors of the University of the Philippines is for the need of national universities to be present in the different regions or districts in the country. In the case of the Cordillera Region, it should have a similar educational institution similar to the University of the Philippines or a National University having its own charter and based in Northern Luzon having the same quality of education with that if UP,” the solon proposed.
At present, the country has 111 State Universities and Colleges.
Go explained if the proposal will push through, a selection of such National university and college having an equal size, budget and quality education for each region or major island in the country.
