WHILE no specific law that would actually penalize us for being out of style, but hey! It is the new year of the new decade, why not make it your new year’s resolution to look good, and feel good?

Since every woman wants to look stunning to flaunt in her social media accounts, let’s get to know what the beauty trends are for the year 2020.

Rodni Varquez, makeup artist in Arlyn Basquez Salon, said 2020 is the year where everything “natural” yet “elegant” beats the flashy and excessive look.

“Natural look is definitely in for 2020, from the hair style, down to the makeup. Millennials find fresh look convenient, especially for those who are on-the-go,” Varquez shared.

While it is true that not all would look stunning on their desired look, he said it will all depend on the persona a person wants to project.

If you are aiming to have that head-turning look then consider these makeup look and hairstyles.

Makeup

1. The “No-Makeup” Makeup Look

Does it make sense?

Varquez said this look uses full-coverage foundation and light contouring.

He called this makeup style an “everyday look”, which can be worn at work or even in parties or events.

“This look is a hit for those who want their natural beauty to stand out,” he said.

He added this makeup is a throwback to the days when it was all about eyes, bold lips, and pronounced blush.

2. Bushy Eyebrows

If your brows are on the bushy side, then flaunt them.

He said 2020 is a slow transition from the overly-drawn eyebrows.

Authentic brows, he said, will also allow the natural beauty of one’s eyes to pop up.

If your brows aren’t currently shaped well, take a minimalistic approach by plucking only those brows along the brow lines to clean up a bit and leave the rest to an eyebrow specialist.

3. Dewy Look Skin

If you are to rock the “no-makeup” makeup, having a “healthy dewy skin” is a must.

Varquez said this one is harder than it may sound, because nobody can fake a skin to make it look healthy.

He said Koreans are known for this. Surprisingly, Filipinos are fit to have this kind of makeup trend.

“It’s like having a diamond skin where you can add some more glow to it with the use of highlighter,” he said.

Hairstyle

1. Soft Curl

Soft, romantic waves and curls are definitely the trend this year.

He said the easiest and quickest way of recreating this look is to slide a crystal hair piece into one side of your hair, just behind your ear.

“Soft curls are more natural-looking and it’s not a hard thing to do. You can actually do it with your bare hands,” Varquez said.

2. Sided Pony Tail

Miss Universe 2018 Miss Philippines Catriona Gray made every Filipina envious with sided pony tail hairstyle. No wonder.

According to him, this hairstyle is neat and elegantly looking to sport at a formal event.

He reminded to consider the size of your barrel curler to the size of the waves you want to achieve.

When looking for big, loose waves, go for wider barrels that measure 2.5 to 3 cm in diameter. Meanwhile, if you want tighter curls, use slimmer barrel curlers.

3. Messy Look

Messy look, don’t care? Try adding some style on it by tying it up, and you would look fine.

Headbands took a hiatus in 2019, but this time, it will complement your messy hair.

If the headband look isn’t your thing, try switching up the spring trend with a messy topknot and a silky, bow-tie scrunchie.

You can actually sport it in events, he said. Just consider doing some styling.

Varquez, said that although in reality not everyone can achieve the stunning look that they expect, his piece of advice is to flaunt anything that would complement your look and your personality.

“Do not damage your hair and skin with excessive hair coloring and make up,” he said, adding that going organic is still the best practice for a healthier and more glowing look.
