2 dead in road mishap

A MOTORCYCLE driver and his female passenger were killed after a prime mover truck hit them on M.C. Briones Street, corner A.S. Fortuna St. in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City on Tuesday night, Jan. 21, 2020.

Investigators of the Mandaue City Police Office’s Traffic Group identified the victims as Gerry Boy Algones Chavez, a resident of Barangay Alambijud, Argao town; and Jessa Paden Biola, 26, of Sitio Laray, Barangay San Roque in Talisay City.

Police also detained the driver of the prime mover, Edgar Lavador Oncenes, 50, a resident of Masaba, Danao City.

According to an investigation report, Oncenes’ truck and the victims were moving northbound towards Mandaue City just before the incident.

Upon reaching M.C. Briones St., Chavez’s motorcycle was on the second lane while Oncenes’s truck was on the first lane.

When they reached the corner of A.S. Fortuna St., the motorcycle suddenly swerved to the left side, resulting in the truck colliding with them.

Both Chavez and Biola were thrown off the motorcycle as a result of the collision.

The victims were immediately brought to a nearby hospital for medical assistance but they were both pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are set to file charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property against Oncenes. (KFD, JKV)
