Oro to invite 'student visitors' abroad for 2020 Higalaay Festival

CITY Investments and Promotions officer Eileen San Juan said Monday, January 20, that the City Government is planning to invite visitors, particularly students, from its sister cities abroad to visit Cagayan de Oro during this year's celebration of the Higalaay Festival.

San Juan recently came from an international conference in Harbin, China with some of the councilors and selected students of Kong Hua School, Corpus Christi School, Oro Christian Grace School, and Regional Science High School.

"We are looking at exchange visits. So we discussed with them maybe fiesta would be a good time for them also to come and be with us during the festivities," San Juan said.

She said delegates from the sister city in China would not be able to visit Cagayan de Oro City's celebration of the Chinese New Year as they will be with their families.

"We celebrate on our own but maybe for a bigger celebration and exchange visits, this would be during the fiesta," San Juan said.

They will also extend the invitation to visit Cagayan de Oro to its sister city in South Korea, Gwangyang.

San Juan said they are planning to create a special event for the delegates from the sister cities during the Higalaay Festival celebration.

"That's what we are planning and hope to have kay bisag ang Norfolk, Virginia sa US they're also now planning to bring in students from the US to experience ang atong fiesta," San Juan said.
