WHILE it’s a two-way thing between revelers and policemen on the matter of peace and order during the Sinulog festivities, there is something to be said about how our cops carried out security measures.
Anyone who took to the streets during the week and especially where the large crowds were, saw that the Philippine National Police deployed their men and women in the right places and, this you should take note, sent them out wearing the right attitude—polite, friendly.
We have seen some of them shepherding church queues in jovial spirits, ushering in senior citizens, pregnant women, children into safer corners. Politely, they instructed people to fall in line, follow instructions, support security checks.
Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella is reportedly planning a gathering for policemen as an expression of gratitude for a job well done during the Sinulog.
In a radio interview, he said, “One thing that made me happy is the contribution of the police in securing the Sinulog parade routes last Sunday and the solemn procession last Saturday. We have a peaceful Sinulog 2020 because of the police.”
Cebu City Police Office officer-in-charge Col. Engelbert Soriano and Police Regional Office Central Visayas Director Valeriano de Leon, the mayor said, spent their nights at the mayor’s conference room in City Hall to brief him on real-time updates on the peace and order situation in the city.
The gratitude, of course, goes as well to the police forces of Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Bohol Province and the policemen from the stations of the Cebu Police Provincial Office.
Assisting as well were reservists from the Army, Navy, Air Force and cadets and students of the Reserve Officer Training Corps and the Civic Welfare Training Service.
We likewise congratulate the men and women of the PNP for a job well done.
