Cuenco: Celebrating with food, fashion

LAST weekend, millions flocked to Cebu to join our city in celebrating the feast of the Sto. Niño. Sinulog is the time of the year when we are especially proud of everything Cebuano, including the clothes, the cuisine, and the people that make Cebu a great place to live in and to visit.

Marco Polo Plaza Cebu celebrates Sinulog with a Culinary Journey every year, with different Cebuano dishes being served alongside Café Marco’s international buffet. To do something new this year, the hotel has partnered with the incredibly popular Sugbo Mercado food bazaar. Each night for almost a week, a different vendor from Sugbo Mercado served their most popular dishes with the hotel buffet. This included lechon belly and tuna panga from Kuzina Guadalupe, baked scallops and crispy crablets from Seabu, mango shake from Ally Mango, soft serve ice cream from Swirl Dessert Corner, and fresh fruit drinks from Skweez.

Islands Souvenirs’ Cut and Style has grown from a T-shirt personalization event to one of, if not the, most anticipated fashion shows for Sinulog. This year’s Ethnic Hype theme showcased a wider gamut of Cebuano personalities we don’t usually see on the runway, such as SEA (Southeast Asian) games gold medalist for arnis Dexler Bolambao, and tattoo artist Jello Talaboc. Also onstage with the other stars of the show were Islands Souvenirs’ My Islands Experience campaign model and TV host, Drew Arellano, and Miss Universe Philippines 2019, Gazini Ganados. The T-shirts for the fashion show were cut and embellished by students of the Cebu Technological University’s Department of Garments, and were styled by the Fashion Institute of Design and Arts.
