Del Rosario: Slow progress is…

HAVE you ever felt so impatient for something to happen that you almost gave up? Did you feel like crying from frustration? Questioning your belief, your ability, or maybe your dream? Whatever it was or it is that’s causing this feeling, I have some words of consolation for you.

I understand how it feels. I am still in the same boat. But, very recently, I received an email from a young author I am following named Isa Adney, and she consoled me with her words... “Slow progress is... still progress.”

She shared that there was a time when she wanted to be the hare, but life was forcing her to be the tortoise. She wanted to run. She wanted the flower to bloom on hyper-speed like in those nature documentaries; instead, she was the snail. And it was torturous for someone who was so impatient, especially to oneself. But, centimeters of progress are like little miracles. “Slow progress is still progress.” After all, the most precious growth is often imperceptible.”

Dear impatient one, including myself,

Keep going. Keep believing. Keep praying. Never lose hope. Never give up.

Indeed, sometimes, we can be more patient with others than with ourselves. In fact, we can be so harsh on ourselves, it can paralyze us even more. So, we have to first believe in ourselves and our ability to keep going, keep believing, and keep praying.

That thing or dream you are working on, and wished was already done and fulfilled? That prayer you have been whispering for years now? And why are you so bad that you are not able to deliver after so long?

I say to you, like Isa so clearly said to me, “Slow progress is still progress. So, keep going! One day. You will look back on this in hyper-speed and be in awe of what you did.” Or maybe, on what God did, because you believed.

My friend, recognize that most precious growth that is happening within you. Believe in yourself. Yes, as the song goes, there can be miracles, if you believe.”
