THE Cebu Provincial Government gave cash incentives to 1,224 barangay workers in Bantayan Island, northern Cebu on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia led the distribution, which was held at the Bantayan Municipal Gym.

Of the recipients, 484 barangay workers were from Bantayan town, 402 from Sta. Fe and 338 from Madridejos.

The cash incentive for the health workers, animal health aides, nutrition scholars and day care workers was worth P4,000. Each tanod took home P3,000.

Barangay health workers, animal health aides, nutrition scholars and day care workers used to receive a monthly incentive of P2,400 from the Capitol, while tanods (watchmen) used to get P1,500 every month.

Aside from receiving cash gifts, the health workers also received sphygmomanometers (an instrument for measuring blood pressure) and animal health aides got devices for artificial insemination.

Tanods also received kits containing batons, whistles, flashlights and belt bags.

Garcia, in her speech, said the Capitol always supports the barangay workers, whose service contributes to the towns’ safety and residents’ well-being.

“You are our unsung heroes. Di mo makita sa pamantalaan ug magawas sa telebisyon, apan nasayod kami sa dakong tabang ninyo sa matag (You were not reported in newspapers and television, but we knew about your big contributions to your) barangay,” she said.

Earlier, the Capitol had distributed cash incentives to 3,144 barangay workers in San Francisco, Tudela, Poro and Pilar in Camotes Islands, and in the first legislative district. (ANV, KAL)
