Ateneo de Cebu, UV register dominant wins in start of NBTC Cebu

THE reigning Cesafi champions SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles are off to a flying start in the Cebu qualifiers of the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) as they dominated the Abellana National School, 115-41, at the Cebu City Sports Institute on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

The writing was on the wall as early as the first canto as the Magis Eagles raced off to a massive 37-8 lead. They did not look back after that fast start en route to registering the 74-point victory.

Justin Maglasang waxed hot from beyond the three-point arc as he drained six triples and finished with 21 points. John Tanting pulled off a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds while Josiah Villamayor added 14 points and five boards.

Nicolas Tuadles also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards while Reymark Narbasa chipped in 10 markers.

Meanwhile, Ateneo de Cebu’s chief rivals, the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers routed the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars, 82-58. The “Marksman from Balamban,” AJ Sacayan lived up to his moniker as he sank five treys in his 29-point performance for UV.

In other games, the Southwestern University-Phinma Baby Cobras recovered from an early double-digit deficit and defeated the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, 71-64.

Dezeo Villanueva spearheaded SWU-Phinma’s cause with 20 points while Jimwel Craus added 16 points and eight rebounds. Point guard Kendall Limana added 13 markers, five boards and four assists.

Meanwhile, the Don Bosco Greywolves also registered a huge 105-52 beatdown of the Pajo National High School, thanks to the red-hot shooting of Vincent Escobido who sank seven three-pointers en route to tallying 27 points. (JNP)
