Man found dead floating on sea

A MAN was found dead after he reportedly jumped off the first Mactan-Mandaue Bridge around noon Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020.

His body was found floating off Sitio Under the Bridge in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City by Luis Bontuyan, security guard of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

P/Cpl. Joseph Niño Bacalla, officer on duty of the Opao Police Station, said a team was immediately sent to the area after he received Bontuyan’s call.

Based on the police’s initial investigation, residents in the area claimed that a person had jumped off the bridge between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. of Saturday, Jan. 25.

Bacalla said the dead man, who was believed to be in his 30s, was around five feet and seven inches tall.

He was wearing a gray shirt with the word “superior” printed across the chest.

In a separate interview, Opao Police Station chief Police Major Aldrin Villacampa said they have yet to confirm if the man was the first person to jump off the bridge this year.

As of this writing, Villacampa said they have yet to determine the reason behind the man’s death since relatives have yet to come forward and claim the body.

The man’s remains were taken to St. Anne Funeral Homes on S.B. Cabahug St., Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City. (KFD)
