Sangil: Lord heal our land

ALLOW me dear readers to go biblical once in a while. In the book of Mathews, it says: "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorn of figs of thistle? Even so, every fruit tree bringeth forth good fruit but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit wherefore ye shall know them."

You could say that it will be very difficult for our country to really move on and transform economic output into real growth as long as our government leaders are matched vs business leaders. Not really nice for both sector not in accord with each other. President Rodrigo Duterte's guns have been blazing since last year and he was spewing fire with his acidic tongue against the Ayalas, Ongpin, Lopezes, Pangilinan, Prieto, etc. In a house divided, can you expect progress?

There is an urgent alarm in this. The government apparatus, presided by a president are suppose to work for people's welfare and not to be disconnected in anyway. What's happening now is that every time President Duterte addresses a crowd either speaking from the palace or in a public gathering he has the same pillorying and sarcastic remarks vs people whom he doesn't like. Well C, D and E sectors are applauding. No wonder the 82 percent trust rating proved he is indeed very popular. His rating is record high. Lord heal our land, said a praying lady.

I am glued on my TV set watching so many developments happening around the world and around our country. I watched with keen interest the impeachment trial of US President Donald J. Trump. The Democrats impeachment managers led by Congressman Adam Schiff are facing an uphill battle as Senator Mitch McConnel of Kentucky who is the majority leader in the upper house urged the other 52 colleagues from the Republican (GOP) Party to circle the wagon of the embattled Trump. Like in our country in an impeachment trial is a political process and a numbers game. The difference between us is that more pork barrel is promised a senator/ juror, and most likely his vote is based on the promised bonanza and not on the merit of the case.

(The presidential elections in the US is in November this year. I want to have Trump re-elected, inorder to hasten the destruction of their political institutions. I have my own reasons in saying that. No argument please).

In the meanwhile, President Duterte turned down the invitation of Trump to travel to the US and attend the Asean summit in Las Vegas, Nevada. Question. Why in Las Vegas? Why not in Washington DC or New York where normally meetings of heads of state take place? Something fishy? The refusal of Duterte is a good move. He is not so sure if upon landing in the US soil he will be arrested and detained. He might wind up in Guantanamo. If Americans can kidnap a head of state like what they did to Panama's President Manuel Noriega, who can stop them from arresting Duterte in their own country.

And I love whenever our president serve volleys of threats against the most powerful country in the world. He threatened the American government to restore the visa of former Philippine National Police Chief now Senator Bato De la Rosa. (Walang iwanan), otherwise he will scrap the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA). Now let's see if America will yield to the feisty former mayor of Davao City. Abangan.

While ash and black smoke continue to rise, peoples' donations keep pouring. First to respond are the Capampangans led by Governor Dennis "Delta" Pineda. He led a convoy of 50 trucks carrying several items that will include provisions and equipment. The Pampanga mayors led by Angeles City Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin, Mayor Teddy Tumang of Mexico, Mabalacat Mayor Cris Garbo, among others followed suit. Pineda encamped with his disaster team in Batangas for few days. Mabuhay ka Governor Delta.

She still looks gorgeous at 60. Cynthia Garcia, former marketing manager of the old Mimosa Casino, Casablanca and Royce Hotel and Casino was every inch a beauty queen and described as fabulous last Saturday night as she celebrated her birthday with friends and kins at the grand ballroom of Royce Hotel at Clark Freeport. Among I spotted were sportsman- businessman Rodolfo Pineda, actress Vivian Velez, Clark Development Corporation directors Benjie Defensor, Ernie De Vota, Chuck Gueco, Maricar Angeles and several others who are in both Pampanga and Angeles City social register.
