THE Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) has begun strictly implementing the anti-jaywalking rule in Cogon Market as part of the city’s measures to decongest traffic at the busiest public market in Cagayan de Oro City.

Benedicto “Doy” Ramiro, RTA administration officer-designate said, the anti-jaywalking policy is stipulated under the traffic ordinance of the city and was successfully implemented in Divisoria, the central area of Cagayan de Oro.

Under the anti-jaywalking policy, the public is directed to only use sidewalks when walking the streets of Cogon and use the pedestrian when crossing the street.

Ramiro said violators will be fined P500 or to undergo community service.

“We chose Cogon kay kung asa ang heavy traffic mao ang gipili. It will also be convenient sa atong information education campaign kay diha man ang daghan tao,” Ramiro said.

Ramiro said they also plan to replicate what they did in Divisoria, where people are strictly observing the anti-jaywalking policy.
