2 gunmen ambush lottery coordinator

A SMALL Town Lottery (STL) coordinator was killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen Sunday night, Jan. 26, 2020, at the national highway of Barangay Coro, Dalaguete town, Cebu.

The victim, Benjoe Belandres, 39, of Barangay Casay of the same town, was with his live-in partner Ethel Joy Gedoro, 41.

Gedoro also suffered injuries from the shooting.

Police have yet to establish the identities of the assailants who wore full-face helmets, black jackets and pants.

Senior Master Sgt. Noeh Rosales, Dalaguete Police Station investigator, told Superbalita Cebu the victim was on board his motorcycle with Gedoro when ambushed by two assailants also on a motorcycle.

Belandres fell, but his assailants continued to shoot him.

Rosales said that although they are still finding out the motive for the attack, police are not discounting a personal conflict of the victim with the persons behind his shooting.

The gunmen were possibly killers paid by someone who wanted Belandres dead, he added.

There was no mention of whether Belandres was bringing money or if the assailants took his possessions.

The STL was introduced by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office in 2005 in an effort to provide the public with an alternative to illegal numbers games such as jueteng. (GPL)
