Shangri-La celebrates the Chinese New Year

SHANGRI-LA’S Mactan Resort & Spa Cebu welcomed the Year of the Metal Rat with a string of Chinese traditions and a culinary experience guests can enjoy in celebration of the Lunar New Year. The resort’s main lobby was filled with guests last Jan. 25 as they joined in on the celebration which involved activities like the eye-dotting ceremony, the lion and dragon dance, as well as the lighting of the firecrackers, believed to banish evil spirits away.

Capping off the Chinese New Year celebration was the Yee Sang Toss, also known as the prosperity toss. It is believed that the higher one tosses the ingredients, the higher the chances for a wealthy and prosperous year.

That same weekend, the resort’s all-day dining restaurant Tides whipped up some culinary treats for both lunch and dinner in line with the celebration.

Shangri-La continues the festivities for its guests as its Chinese restaurant, Tea of Spring, offers a la carte and set menus.

The Lunar New Year set menus are available until Jan. 31. Indulge in oriental favorites like steamed fish fillet with truffle spinach sauce and steamed live grouper with double deluxe soy stauce, fresh tiger prawn served with exotic fruit salad. The menu set comes with a plate of Yee Sang for the families to have their own prosperity toss.
