Auxiliary cop shoots plantation worker

A PLANTATION worker was shot and wounded by an auxiliary police in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police said Tuesday, January 28.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 10:50 p.m. Monday in Poblacion Village, Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte.

Galvez identified the victim as Hasiden Lontua, 19, rubber tapper and a resident of Purok Sentro Dos in Poblacion, Kalawit Village.

She said the victim was alleged shot and wounded by Ruchel Abajar, 55, a Kalawit Auxillary Police (KAP), who fled after the incident and remains at large.

Investigation showed that Abajar pulled his caliber .45 pistol and shot Lontua while the suspect was pacifying a commotion between the suspect’s nephew and the victim.

Galvez said the victim was taken to Kalawit Municipal Rural Health Unit for treatment and was transferred later to the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Hospital. (SunStar Zamboanga)
