WHERE I was raised, I was surrounded by beaches and islands. But, I wasn’t necessarily an island or beach boy though, it was only when I had to leave my hometown for college that I realized my love for the sea and appreciated the beauty of a salty life.
When it comes to beaches and islands, I always look at Mati’s white sand shores and rich islands as references and standards.
We’re in Siargao Island last November with my friends. I always associated Siargao with surfing, but none about its beautiful islands. So, when I heard that we are going to try their three-island tour, I wasn’t expecting much until I witnessed its beauty unfolding before me. The three-island tour was, indeed, worth it.
Let me share to you my thoughts about these three islands we visited in Siargao.
Naked Island
This is usually the first stop for Siargao’s all-day island hopping tour. But you can opt to change the usual itinerary according to your plan.
Naked Island had its name because it has literally nothing but a patch of sand in the middle of the sea. No shade, just a white sand surrounded by crystal clear waters.
We stayed here for just a couple of minutes after some quick dip and pictorials.
Just a few minutes away by boat from General Luna, Naked Island is the place to go to for some sun, sand, and swimming.
Daku Island
This island is blessed with a forest of tall coconut trees, clear waters, and white sand beach.
Daku Island’s name was derived from a Bisaya word which means “big”. I asked a local here why it is called Daku and he said it might probably be because this island is the biggest among the three famous island in Siargao.
Apart from its beautiful sceneries, the island is a famous lunch stop among tourists. There are huts here where you can take a shade and dig in on your island feast lunch. For our lunch, our guide prepared a boodle fight-like feast with an abundance of squid, grilled chicken and pork, shrimps, tuna, adobo, mango, pineapple, watermelon, and drinks.
Walking around the island, I met some locals busy preparing fresh buko drinks sold at P50 each. It’s a perfect drink to complete your island getaway.
Guyam Island
This part of the island-hopping tour is my most favorite. Guyam gives you different chill beach vibes that makes you more relaxed and refreshed.
We stayed here for some three hours chillin’ with the speakers on. Upon arriving, you just have to find a spot where you can rest. Whether on a hammock or wooden chairs or mats on the sand, just choose.
There is also a small cafe serving refreshments and fruit shakes, a perfect companion for the sunny and hot weather.
In the middle of the island you can also find a basketball ring where tourists can play with some locals.
Just imagine, you resting on a hammock under the shades of green palm trees, drinking your favorite cold fruit shake, listening to your favorite acoustic playlist while having a view of the island’s blue waters and white sand beach. Perfect.
We ended our island-hopping tour sun-kissed and satisfied. It was a day-long tour that gives me more reasons to love more the salty life.
