Sinas takes lead, seeks to lose weight

NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Debold Sinas will take the lead and serve as a “model” among policemen trying to lose weight as part of the campaign against overweight policemen.

Sinas said that on Tuesday, February 4, they will launch the NCRPO’s Body Mass Index (BMI) reduction program.

He said there are at least 700 overweight cops who are classified as obese II and III in Metro Manila alone. About 300 more cops are not obese but would be required to lose weight.

From February to March, the identified obese cops will be given lectures and seminars during which they will be encouraged and taught how to lose weight through exercise and proper diet.

“Sa buong NCR, lahat ng Obese II at III, doon po magre-report tapos mabigyan ng lecture kung papaano mag-exercise. (For the whole NCR, those who are obese II and III will report there and will be given a lecture on how to exercise.) They will report at least twice a month,” he said.

Sinas said if they fail to lose weight within the said months, they will be sent to a “summer camp” in April where they will undergo intense weight loss activities.

He said these policemen will focus on losing excess weight for the whole month and they will not report for regular duty.

“Doon imo-monitor ‘yung exercise at libre ang pagkain kasi ang pagkain doon puro lettuce at saka carrots at pipino kaya libre. The summer camp naman is controlled,” he said.

“Kumbaga pwersahan na. So pag nag-classify ka sa obese II and III and you have 2 months na mag-reduce substantially. ‘Pag walang progress, forced ka doon sa summer camp. Sa umaga exercise, sa hapon exercise, sa gabi ballroom, libre ang pagkain dyan, sasagutin namin... Kung ayaw nila pumunta at mag-reduce, get out of NCRPO,” Sinas added.

Earlier, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Archie Francisco Gamboa reminded his men to maintain the proper BMI index in a bid to correct the public perception that policemen were not being responsible for their weight as they are with their duties and responsibilities.

He said maintaining the BMI may also ensure that the policemen were ready to perform their duties and responsibilities because they are in good health condition.

Gamboa warned that non-maintenance of BMI may deny or delay a cop his or her promotion. (SunStar Philippines)
