Devotees enjoy free water from MCWD

PILGRIMS from the province of Cebu sheltered at the Devotee City beside the Compania Maritima at the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City enjoyed safe and potable water for free from the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MWCD).

MCWD installed faucets for water needs of the occupants of the Devotee City on Jan. 17, 2020.

Provided with sleeping quarters, portable toilets, water and other necessities, Sto. Niño devotee Susana Villalon, 52, expressed her appreciation that she and her family had a place to stay and water to use in the city. Her family came all the way from Dumanjug, Cebu. She promised to pay her respects and show her devotion to Sto.

I am thankful that we have a place to stay and sleep, and a place where we can leave our children while we sell candles. We also have water that we can use. It would be a burden for us to buy water outside for three days because it is expensive and we can’t afford it),” Villalon said.

Devotee Edwin Rosenio, 23, a father of two from Toledo City, Cebu, said that it was his third time to be housed in the Devotee City. He was aware of the water supply given to them for free.

“Dako og tabang nga libre ang tubig kay dili na mi mag palit-palit sa gawas; dili na moadto pa sa layo (It’s a great help for us that water is available here for free so we don’t have to go outside and buy water),” he said.

MCWD is one of the reliable partners of the Cebu City Government in providing services to devotees who are less privileged since it started the Devotee City in 1995.

The Devotee City, originally called Tent City, is a temporary shelter for out-of-towners who come to the city to celebrate or to sell goods in time for the fiesta celebration.
