La Trinidad has new chief of police

LA TRINIDAD’S top official slammed the unceremonious relief of chief of police.

Mayor Romeo Salda said the untimely relief of Chief of Police Major Roldan Cabatan came as a surprise who just arrived from abroad.

“Upon arrival from Malaysia, January 21, we receive an order from regional director that some PNP (Philippine National Police) officers were already relieved from their post, one is Police Major Roldan Cabatan. He was assigned to Baguio City. The following day, we receive an order that Police Major Cleff Vencio was assigned as chief of police,” said Salda.

The mayor added that upon receiving the order, he penned Police Brigadier General Ephraim Dickson, Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO-COR) director, requesting for a shortlist of nominees for the aforementioned position to allow the local government unit for in-depth study and consideration.

“This development came as a surprise to us, considering that Police Major Cabatan’s length of service as La Trinidad Cop was only seven months both in acting and regular capacity. Relative to this, we recognize anew that the PNP leadership has control over such matters, but we must likewise reiterate the recommendation of the local chief executive must likewise be given weight considering that he is tasked to maintain peace and order within his area of jurisdiction,” Salda said.

Special Orders No. PRO-COR-SO-RA-2020-77 issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP), PRO–COR regarding the relief and address the reassignment of various PNP personnel including the chief of police.

“Every time I leave, the chief of police change,” an irked Salda said adding it will be the third time the town’s chief of police was relieved.

Salda disclosed the new officer-in-charge will be tasked to continue the programs and projects of the previous chief of police on traffic, peace and order adding he has given the new OIC marching orders on illegal drugs and illegal gambling.

To recall, then Police Inspector Benson Macli-ing was supposed to finish his two year stint in December 2018, however, he was relieved October when the mayor was in Japan for an official business.

Last year, then Inspector Jeoffer Banglayan was relieved after six months when the mayor was in Israel on an official business trip together with Department of Agriculture, Benguet and Mountain Province mayors.

The Benguet official stated the unceremonious relieve of chief of police of the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station affect the LGU most especially its personnel.
