Army destorys 44 loose firearms

ILOILO. THE Sixth Forward Service Support Unit (6FSSU) of the Philippine Army based in Camp Marting Delgado in Iloilo City has destroyed 44 firearms on Tuesday, January 28.

Lieutenant Colonel Imelda La Nadala, commanding officer for the 6FSSU of Army Support Command (Ascom) of the Philippine Army (PA), said the demilitarization of the captured, confiscated, surrendered, recovered (CCSR) firearms is done “in order to render it useless to prevent in ending up to the hands of the lawless enemy.”

Aside from 24 CCSR firearms that were destroyed by cutting it to pieces and burned, ten firearms that came from Military Assistance Program (MAP) will be brought back to the general headquarters for the final deposition of the firearms.

These ten MAP firearms are all unserviceable according to the military.

Ten more CCSR firearms are still subject to macro etching before it will be physically destroyed for verification as to its ownership.

“These 44 firearms were turned in by the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) through its maneuver battalions and we (6FSSU) do the safekeeping,” Nadala said.

The 6FSSU aside from being the safe keeper of the firearms, they are also ordered to demilitarized the firearms by cutting and burning.

The last disposal of the CCSR firearms was done in 2011.

These 44 firearms where consolidates and kept by the 6FSSU since 2016.

The demilitarized of the firearms were also attended by Lieutenant Colonel Fernando Dulawan, vice chairman for the disposal committee of the army and a member Commission on Audit. (SunStar Philippines)
