A TOTAL of 1,184 illegal “open pipe” motorcycle mufflers were destroyed at the Sagay City Government Center on Monday, January 27, as a part of enhancing the police operations in Sagay and implementation of the city ordinance.

The ceremonial destruction of the confiscated mufflers were led by Mayor Alfredo Marañon III, Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr. and Police Chief Antonio Benitez, with the officers of Sagay City Police Station and the City Government of Sagay.

A road roller-compactor crushed the mufflers that were confiscated through the series of operations along the national highway and major roads in the area since 2017 to the present.

The confiscated mufflers came from motorists coming from cities of Bacolod, Escalante, Cadiz, and Sagay, and Toboso town.

The series of confiscations are in line with the continued implementation of City Ordinance No. 2015-002 or “An Ordinance Regulating the Operation of Motor Vehicles with Modified Mufflers within the City of Sagay and Prescribing Penalties Thereof” and the Enhanced Managing Police Operation Program under the Philippine National Police Patrol Plan 2030.

Benitez said that this program is also in line to maintaining the peace and order in the city, adding that he urged all the motorists to always follow traffic rules for your safety and the safety of all road users.

Mayor Marañon also said that illegal open pipe muffles contribute to the noise pollution in the community and there is a need to minimize it to maintain road safety and order.

Based on the ordinance, violators will be fine from P500 to P5,000 and confiscation of the motor vehicle.

He also urged the Sagaynons to report to the authorities if there are any motorists around the city who continue in using it.

Meanwhile, the city government also distributed new sets of uniform and duty supplies to the Sagay City Traffic Enforcers during the event.

Benitez said that this is to honor the efforts of the enforcers in ensuring order along the Sagay thoroughfares and highways and he hopes that it will motivate them to do more in doing their duties.

In his message, he reminded them the strict implementation of traffic rules and regulation must be observed.

Benitez also discussed to them the crime prevention awareness and vigilance at all times. PR
