Nocppo targets top drug suspects

NEGROS Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) Director Police Colonel Romeo Baleros Tuesday, January 28, said the Philippine National Police (PNP) is aiming to arrest the top drug dealers in the province this year.

Baleros together with top police officials in the province conducted their New Year’s call with Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson at the social hall of the Provincial Capitol where they also presented their accomplishments.

He said there are five drug groups operating in the province and for year 2019 they confiscated about P30 million worth of illegal drugs.

These are the Divinagracia, Bertusio, Burgos, Mangontawar, and Ramos groups.

He also said that their accomplishment in the campaign against illegal drugs last year will be their baseline this year.

“The arrests we made last year should be surpassed this year,” Baleros said

Baleros also said smuggling illegal drugs into the province has become difficult for drug suppliers.

He pointed out due to the relentless campaign against illegal drugs by police authorities illegal drugs supply in the province has been reduced by 60 percent compared to last year.

On the report that Bacolod is a shabulized city, Baleros said illegal drug activity in the province is not as rampant as before.

He admitted that they could not stop the entry of illegal drugs because it’s a “multi-billion” business.

Baleros added that Negros Island has a wide coastline, and there are commercial, private ports and areas that cannot be watched over and are being used by fishing boats. (TDE)
