Bolonsiri cemetery's redevelopment draws approval from locals

AN OFFICIAL of the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) said the redevelopment of the Bolonsiri cemetery was well liked and accepted by families of those buried in the city's public cemetery.

Clenro chief and City Public Cemetery and Memorial Park Development Board's head of secretariat Engineer Armen Cuenca said no negative feedback were noted during a three-part series public consultation, which concluded on Tuesday, January 28.

Cuenca said one of the feedback that stood out was the concern of the Muslim community, asking the cemetery board to respect their practices.

"It was already addressed, simple lang ang mga concerns," he said.

As the city wrapped up its consultations, the cemetery board now prepares to undergo the first phase of the project -- to build the columbarium and the entrance part of the cemetery.

The board is still waiting for the design from the students of the University of Science of Technology of the Southern Philippines, which will be the basis for the budget proposal.

"Wala man na incorporate sa 2020 budget ang redevelopment so among paningkamot na maapas sa supplemental budget number 1 so we can start the initial phase of the project," Cuenca added.
