Cut & Style 2020: Showcasing Filipino roots

MORE than the fashion, this year’s Cut & Style put a spotlight on Filipino ethnicity. The vibrant production, with the theme “Ethnic Hype” held last Jan. 17 at SM City Cebu, featured Cebuano talent and craftsmanship along with an ethnic pride for arts and culture.

In line with its theme, the show featured some of the city’s personalities that have made an impact in their respective fields.

Personalities that walked the runway were Netflix’s “Street Food” stars Ian Sekong, Leslie Enjambre and Ruby Manayon; “Tubig Queen” Jay Kummer “Dodoy” Teberio; Rebecca Lim, known for her saying, “Wa’y Tubig, Wa’y Agas;” 30th Sea Games Gold Medallist for Arnis Dealer Bolambao; Influencers Alem Garcia, Dave Quirante, Ram Mancelita, Clare Inso, Kathryn Mier and Neil Savellon.

Joining them on the runway are families with their children like Monica Orellano and Jansen Vercede; Karla Henry-Ammann; the Genistons; Reena Elena Malinao-Tan; and Trixie Lofranco, Ronna Jenn Lofranco-Cañete. There were also the Cebuano creatives like accessories designer Neil Felipp San Pedro; tattoo artist Jello Talaboc; and thespian and actor Ligaya Rabago. Fashion designers Lord Maturan, Edwin Alba, Mel Maria, Edward James Castro and Philipp Tampus joined the stage with this year’s Bb. Cebu winners: Bb. Cebu Ecology Amanda Basnillo, Bb. Cebu Heritage Marla Alforque, Bb. Cebu Charity Betty Davis, Bb. Cebu Tourism Ameena Allababidi and Bb. Cebu Beatrice Luigi Gomez.

Up next were fashion designer Hanz Coquilla with partner stylist Ichael Serneo; social advocate lawyer Regal Oliva; Queen Philippines Universe 2011 Bee Urgello; entrepreneur Margo Frasco; travel and food writer and photographer Jude Bacalso; trans advocate Chase Go Tolentino; and transman and Youtuber Van Go.

Also walking the runway was Drew Arellano together with Miss Millenial 2019 Nicole Borromeo with the special appearance of Miss Universe Philippines 2019, Gazini Ganados.

This year’s shirts were styled personally by the Fashion Institute of Design and Arts (FIDA) Cebu, cut and embellished by Cebu Technological University students from the Department of Garments. (Contributed photos)
