Arrest warrant out after cop charged with frustrated homicide

THE police officer involved in two shooting incidents in Hinigaran and Pontevedra in August 2019 has received his arrest warrant for the incident.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo), said Police Corporal Romnick Ace Pacificar received his arrest warrant at Barangay 1-Poblacion, Pontevedra earlier on Tuesday for the charge of “frustrated homicide.”

The arrest warrant was issued and signed by Judge Mila Yap-Camiso of the La Carlota City Regional Trial Court Branch 74, dated January 7, 2020.

Pacificar was immediately brought to the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, although he was later freed after posting bail.

Based on official records of the incident, on the evening of August 28, 2019 Pacificar and two of his companions were preparing to have a drink when the suspect confronted 20-year-old Jiene Mar Baya.

As Pacificar and Baya were having a conversation, Pacificar allegedly fired his firearm at Baya, wounding him in the neck.

Pacificar immediately fled on his motorcycle. As he was making his escape, he got involved in an accident in the town of Pontevedra, which was witnessed by Aldwin Provido and his companion, Billy Mindanao.

Both Provido and Mindanao attempted to help Pacificar, but the suspect pulled out his firearm and shot Provido, while Mindanao was hit by a stray bullet.

All of the victims managed to survive the shootings.

Pacificar later surrendered to Pontevedra Municipal Police Station after the incident.

Aside from the criminal charge, Pacificar also faced a probe before the National Police Commission-Western Visayas for the incident. (TDE)
